Rob Bell and his Next Possible Heresy

Love does win, but in a very vague non-threatening sense
Hearing Rob Bell referred to as a heretic is about as common as the Timberwolves becoming a future lottery team (3/4 of you didn't get that reference). With every new book skeptics and naysayers find some "new teaching" to attack as heresy. In Velvet Elvis many pastors and talking heads slammed Bell for bringing up the notion that Jesus' birth may have not been a virgin birth (he later affirmed the virgin birth) and for tearing down one of the pillars of the protestant reformation, sola scriptura. A few years ago in his book Jesus Wants to Save Christians Bell attacked the notion of American prosperity asking how could "God Bless" what looks so much like the ancient Egypt that enslaved the Israelites for more then four centuries.

In classic "Nooma" fashion Rob Bell has released a video for his new book Love Wins. Without giving too much information, but being as sharp as a knife Bell turns fundamentalist Christianity on its head by almost making the notion that everyone will enter Heaven. Leaders such as Mark Driscoll and John Piper have already labeled Bell as a heretic promoting universalism before the book has even been read.

Whether Bell has jumped off the theological cliff will be found out when the book is released; however until then, Bell will leave us scratching our heads by making the remark, "Are we sure Ghandi is in Hell?"
